| Resumo: | Based on fieldwork carried out for postdoctoral research during 2023 and 2024, the article analyzes documents produced by the judicial morgue of the province of Córdoba, Argentina, in 1976, at the time of death of people killed by repressive practices. Approached from an ethnography of documents, they represent a significant materiality from which specific meanings about the dead and dying emerge and which allow us to reflect on possible transitions between life and death. In this sense, I conjecture that writing in state documents configures liminal existences where the dead present characteristics of the world of the living, configuring specific identities -the “enemy”- and from which the dead possess specific agencies. Thus, documents are re-signified by the practices to which they are subjected, operating both as devices and as constructors and transmitters of meanings about dying and the dead in specific historical contexts. |
