It is the largest UC in Maranhão and for which only one study on bryophytes was carried out, restricted to a few collections, reflecting a possibly underestimated diversity compared to other areas of the Cerrado already studied in Maranhão. The objective of this work is to investigate the richness and composition of bryophyte communities in Mirador State Park, in the state of Maranhão, Brazil, contributing to the knowledge of the bryophyte flora of Maranhão and the Brazilian Cerrado. The collections were carried out in the months of February, June 2023 and January 2024, each excursion lasting five days, exploring the environments of cerrado, vereda and riparian forests (gallery and riparian forest). From 1,416 specimens collected, 64 species, 36 genera and 21 families of bryophytes were identified. Mosses predominated in the PEM with 14 families, 21 genera and 38 species, while liverworts were represented by seven families, 15 genera and 26 species. No hornworts were collected. There were eight new records for Maranhão, with one new record for the Brazilian Cerrado. Through this study, 51 species not yet recorded in the area were recorded. As expected, riparian forests stood out with the largest number of species and specimens, followed by vereda and cerrado. In relation to substrates, there was a predominance of corticolous species, followed by epiphyte, terrestrial, rupicolous, over termite mounds, and epiphyllous species. Liverworts showed a greater preference for trunks, while mosses preferentially colonized rocks. The predominance of bryophytes in riparian forests reinforces the importance of maintaining this environment for bryophyte communities in the Cerrado and the importance of PEM for conservation of the Cerrado’s biodiversity in Maranhão.

A flora dessas UCs ainda é pouco conhecida, principalmente no que se refere ao grupo das briófitas, que em geral é negligenciado em levantamentos de florísticos. Nesse aspecto se enquadra o Parque Estadual do Mirador (PEM). Esta é a maior UC do Maranhão e para a qual foi realizado apenas um estudo sobre briófitas, restrito a poucas coletas, refletindo uma diversidade possivelmente subestimada se comparada a outras áreas de Cerrado já estudadas no Maranhão. O objetivo desse trabalho foi investigar a riqueza e composição das comunidades de briófitas no Parque Estadual do Mirador, no estado do Maranhão, Brasil, contribuindo com o conhecimento da flora de briófitas do Maranhão e do Cerrado Brasileiro. As coletas foram realizadas nos meses de fevereiro e junho de 2023 e janeiro de 2024, com duração de cinco dias cada excursão, sendo explorados os ambientes de cerrado, vereda e florestas ripárias (floresta de galeria e ciliar). De 1.416 espécimes coletados, foram identificadas 64 espécies, 36 gêneros e 21 famílias de briófitas. Os musgos predominaram no PEM com 14 famílias, 21 gêneros e 38 espécies, enquanto as hepáticas foram representadas por sete famílias, 15 gêneros e 26 espécies. Não foram coletados antóceros. Foram oito novos registros para o Maranhão, sendo um novo registro para o Cerrado Brasileiro. Através desse estudo, foram registradas 51 espécies ainda não registradas na área. Como esperado, as florestas ripárias se destacaram com o maior número de espécies e espécimes, seguido de vereda e cerrado. Em relação aos substratos, houve predominância de espécies corticícolas, seguidas de epíxilas, terrícolas, rupícolas, sobre cupinzeiro e epífilas. As hepáticas mostraram maior preferência por troncos, enquanto os musgos colonizaram preferencialmente rochas.
