Resumo:Present in different cultures, rammed earth is a millenary technique. With the industrialization and the discovery of new technologies and materials, the rammed earth fell in decline. However, concerns about the scarcity of natural resources, led to the need for investment in sustainable buildings, which rescued old construction practices. The objective of this article is to analyse, in the publications of the last 10 years, the technological evolution of the rammed earth, as material and construction system. Recent studies on rammed earth seek to obtain mixtures that ensure improvements in physical and mechanical properties. There is also a search for techniques that increase the productivity of the mud and the quality of buildings. Despite the technological changes, with the addition of cement (as a stabilizer) on a large scale and the use of mechanization in compaction, the rammed earth can still be considered an alternative of low environmental impact when compared to conventional technologies.
