Sumario:This paper is an initial consideration on the relationship between information science with library and archival sciences. It assumes that different disciplines need to find a validation grounded on the Science. As "power knowledge" information science offers the theoretical foundation that would serve as a validator for the insertion of these disciplines into the academy and sciences scope. However, the power relations between the sciences are not unidirectional; rather there is a clash between knowledge based on various traditions and practices. Thus, emphasizing the institutional aspects of information science in Brazil, it interprets such relationships as an approximation articulated from its exteriority. However, it is appointed the possibility of a dialogue around topics of common interest between those areas.
