As "power knowledge" information science offers the theoretical foundation that would serve as a validator for the insertion of these disciplines into the academy and sciences scope. However, the power relations between the sciences are not unidirectional; rather there is a clash between knowledge based on various traditions and practices. Thus, emphasizing the institutional aspects of information science in Brazil, it interprets such relationships as an approximation articulated from its exteriority. However, it is appointed the possibility of a dialogue around topics of common interest between those areas.O presente artigo é uma reflexão inicial sobre as relações entre a ciência da informação com a biblioteconomia e a arquivologia. Parte do princípio de que diversas disciplinas precisam encontrar uma justificativa respaldadas na ciência. Enquanto “saber poder” a ciência da informação ofereceria a fundamentação teórica que serviria como validadora para a inserção dessas disciplinas na academia. No entanto, as relações de poder entre as ciências não são constituídas de forma unidirecional, pelo contrário existe um embate entre os saberes fundamentados em tradições e práticas diversas. Assim, ressaltando-se os aspectos institucionais da ciência da informação no Brasil, percebe-se uma aproximação imposta desde sua exterioridade, e a possibilidade de um diálogo em torno de tópicos de interesse comum.Universidade de São Paulo.
