| Resumo: | At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, writers became involved in a project of rediscovering Brazil, facilitated by journeys, mainly by train, which took them to different places, including the sertões, an enclave in the outline of a nation that provoked thought-provoking responses to the contradictions observed. Based on selected texts by Nestor Vítor, Julia Lopes de Almeida, Afonso Arinos, Coelho Neto, Alberto Rangel, Euclides da Cunha, Monteiro Lobato and Lima Barreto, the aim is to expose the tensions of the journeys in search of Brazilianness that resulted in discourses and ways of seeing the country and culture that are still in dispute today. |
