This change, however, does not occur synchronously and homogeneously in the region, since countries have begun the process of fertility decline in specific times and with different paces, besides the fact that such fertility transition is markedly distinguished by socioeconomic characteristics. This occurs, for instance, in Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia. In this sense, the objective of this dissertation is to analyze the parity progression ratios and the interval between births for recent periods, in order to capture the behavior of these measures and their possible changes in the different scenarios these countries present. Thus, it will use the data on birth history cohorts of women who had completed their reproductive cycle at the time of the interview.A análise do declínio da fecundidade de uma população pode ser realizada decompondo aspectos intrínsecos a ela, como, por exemplo, a parturição, segundo a ordem, e o intervalo ou espaçamento dos nascimentos. Ambos aspectos, que têm sido pouco explorados no caso da América Latina, constituem uma ferramenta indispensável para se compreender melhor a mudança do comportamento reprodutivo, marcado pela redução do tamanho das famílias. Essa mudança, no entanto, não acontece de maneira sincronizada e homogênea na região, haja vista que os países iniciaram o processo de declínio da fecundidade em épocas específicas e com velocidades de queda diferentes, além dessa transição da fecundidade ser marcadamente discriminada segundo as características socioeconômicas. É o que ocorre, por exemplo, com Brasil, Bolívia e Colômbia. Nesse sentido, objetiva-se fazer uma análise da razão de progressão da parturição e do intervalo entre nascimentos para períodos recentes e suficientemente amplos, a fim de captar o comportamento dessas medidas e suas possíveis alterações nos cenários antagônicos que esses países apresentam.
