Descripción
Sumario:This study aims to verify the professional trajectory of the Alumni of the Undergraduate Tourism Program at a Public Higher Education Institute, the Fluminense Federal University (UFF). First, a bibliographical and a documentary exploratory research were conducted to check the purposes of the Brazilian Higher Education over the years and the role of the universities about employability. Subsequently, the current context of the Higher Education, the Labor Market and the Higher Education in Tourism in the country were presented. Then, it was performed a field research with a quantitative approach, through online questionnaires using the Qualtrics, a virtual platform. This step has the goal to check which career paths have followed the professional graduates in tourism formed by the analyzed college. A total of 248 students had graduated effectively. Therefore, it was obtained a relevant information from a sample of 28% of tourism professionals graduated. It was found that half of respondents did not work on the tourism industry and that one third got the last job placement through networking. The area of greatest interest is the Planning, although Lodging Facilities and Tour Operators & Travel Agencies have been the areas of greatest experience of graduates. Finally, most of them after the graduation studies has been following open courses, graduate programs, executive masters (MBAs) or languages studies. It is suggested that such a survey be done regularly in order to tailor the course to local conditions, to be offered a schedule of activities to reintegrate the graduates to the academic community and stimulate the building of new continuing courses aiming to recycle their knowledge and especially opening up new professional opportunities for future graduates.
