| Resumo: | This paper discusses the Latin American primary-exporting condition, its evolution and updating, emphasizing the concept of extractivism and its critique. First, it argues about the historical conformation of Latin America as a primary-exporting region and the criticism of this condition. Secondly, it discusses the renewal of extractivism stimulated by the expansion of commodity exports at the beginning of the 21st century. It highlights the impacts of this development model on territories and Nature. Thirdly, it indicates post-extractivism transitions as multiple paths of actions and reflections of popular movements. In conclusion, extractivism is considered essential to the understanding of central issues of the contemporary Latin American reality: development and environment. |
