Resumo:The SARS-CoV-2 infection can lead to respiratory symptoms, but several studies showed that the same patients may experience symptoms and abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting episodes. Moreover, evidence suggests that the involvement of GIT following SARS-CoV-2 infection indicates the presence of an oral-fecal transmission path. Thus, this study aimed to identify the influence of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the GIT through an integrative review. An automatic search was conducted in PubMed and Scielo databases. Studies were screened based on eligibility criteria by reading the title and abstract. Ten studies met the established criteria and composed the final sample. GIT manifestations related to COVID-19 occurred in all included studies in this review. Additionally, other conditions associated with GIT manifestations, such as hepatic involvement and the presence of viral RNA in the feces of affected individuals, were observed. Further studies are needed to clarify the underlying mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, GIT manifestations, and disease progression.Keywords: SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, Coronavirus, Gastrointestinal diseases.
