Resumo:Hostel, a world-class phenomenon, is known as a means of accommodation that offers shared spaces for a reduced price. It is an alternative form of accommodation that, in principle, facilitates the interaction between the subjects that compose it, and between them and the allowed place / context. Althoughwe have grown exponentially in recent years, no academic context such as research on the topic is still in the process of development. In this sense, the present investigation is dedicated to mapping the state of the art of hostel in Brazil and Portugal in the period 2015-2019. The methodology of this qualitative research is exploratory-descriptive and was used in the cataloging and analysis of data through selected databases, from Brazil and Portugal. The proposed mapping had as investigative corpus a total of 130 productions, with 62 selected from Portugal and 68 from Brazil. Articles are the most recurrent type of publication in Brazil, unlike Portugal, which presents more dissertations of hostels. It was found that the subjects (owners and guests) are the central axis of strict studies. In general, the development of theses as an advance for the phenomenon, given the inexistence of this type of investigation in years preceding the research. Although tourism is an area that maintains a regularity of publications, and multidisciplinarity is recurrent, to consolidate and qualify, or the field, it is necessary to conduct research with inter / transdisciplinary resources.
