Descrição
Resumo:This paper, which summarizes the author’s master thesis in organization studies, presents results from a study of strategic management practices as they relate to organizational stakeholders. The underlying conceptual framework comes from stakeholder theory, transaction costs economics and the new economic sociology, which emphasize minimization of the costs of preventing opportunistic behaviour, and paradoxically, the development of social networks based on trust, which seek to maximize collective gain. This is a qualitative case study involving interviews with diverse stakeholders—community representatives, clients, and suppliers from an appliance manufacturer in Santa Catarina, Brazil. The results suggest the existence of a variety of different practices. Despite the presence of opportunistic pressures, cooperation and mutual trust are seen as important factors serving the interests of those involved.
