Sumario:The project of helping others to undertake profound changes in their lives is the central mission of personal construct psychology. It is undertaken within a very special relationship with someone who helps open up space for personal development and understanding. Perhaps the best way to view what has gone wrong is to envision the person as having become stuck or trapped. In the everyday course of events, one would be getting on with life and not need professional assistance. As a matter of course there would be an opening up of new possibilities for either expanding one’s interests or refining existing projects or both. Something, however, has come up which has impeded growth, despirited or disoriented the person and has resulted in some degree of helplessness and hopelessness. In these circumstances, personal construct psychotherapy or counselling offers hope and helps the person to feel alive again. Feeling alive means much more than just getting out of the bog. It means getting on with the most creative aspects of what life might hold.
