| Resumo: | This article starts from a strangely bilingual Canadian sound poem, «Simultaneous Translation» by Penn Kemp (1984) and traces the specifically Canadian aspects of the work done in the area of «translation and gender» from the 1980s to 2000. The social and political circumstances supporting the intense focus both on gender and on translation in Canada in those decades are explored here, and are seen as the key to understanding why primarily Canadian writers and academics developed the field. |
