Resumo:An unprecedented classification scheme for stonemeal is proposed in this work, unifying agrogeological and commercial nomenclatures, adopting qualitative criteria and removing ambiguities and innapropriate terms while aiming to facilitate the communication between different fields of knowledge. Stonemeal consists in powdered rocks enriched in K, Ca and/or Mg that are directly applied in the field for crop nutrition. The classification proposal is based both on geochemistry and mineralogy, dividing products in four categories: Primary, for those that have high K and/or P contents; Secondary, for the ones that contain high Ca and/or Mg values; Whole, for those that have high values for both Primary and Secondary classes; and Universal, for the products that have low macronutrient contents, but that still can be commercialized according to legal determinations. The criteria used forthe classification are qualitative, in a sense that they can be adapted to changes in market and legal conditions.
